MDS ADL SDA

Specialist Disability Accommodation and Assistance with Daily Living

People who live in SDA can use the built-in features of the home to reduce the cost of overall supports. This might mean that a person no longer needs 24/7 paid supports, as the features of the property are so effective at assisting with daily activities and life that hands on workers are no longer required as they would have been in a standard property.

What this looks like: An example might be someone who lives with a complex physical disability who can use smart home technology to complete a lot of tasks that Support Workers would have done in another building. This might be things like operating the heating, blinds, windows, lights and even smart technology appliances. People who can use SDA to reduce their support costs may only need drop in supports (ADL’s) for things like toileting and transfers.

This model of support takes time to plan and conceive, and is usually determined and led by the Participant themselves.
