Wheel Instructions

This tool has been developed to assist with exploring combinations of models of Housing and Support. It is important to realise that there is a distinction:

Housing models are all about the bricks and mortar and buildings. It is not to do with staff support. These are physical dwellings in which a person can live.  Use the yellow button at the top left of the screen to turn the wheel and to lock in different housing models. As you cycle through the models, a short description will appear in the yellow box below.

Support models describe how you receive assistance to live your life in a way that is meaningful to you. For some with lower support needs, they may require drop in supports during the week, either from unpaid or paid sources. For others with high support needs, they may need 24/7 paid support, either alone or in a shared environment. Use the blue button at the top left of the screen to turn the wheel and to lock in different support models. As you cycle through the models, a short description will appear in the blue box below.

It is worth noting that this tool contains a lot of acronyms and NDIS-speak, for some information about what these mean in plain English, please click here. This area of the NDIS is technical, and getting the most out of the NDIS means understanding the lingo and being able to use it to your advantage. We have included links in each model to our Resource Page for further reading, should you require it. As this tool is written with a lot of NDIS language, using it may require assistance from a Support Coordinator, family member or LAC. We hope to develop an Easy English tool in the future.

Just to be clear: These models of Housing and Support and their combinations here are by no means exhaustive and this tool is just intended to get you thinking about what is out there. Each person will have their own unique vision for what their future Home and Living arrangement looks like. This tool is not intended to be a full breakdown of your personal situation or give specific advice on how to get any of these supports into your NDIS plan. If you are seeking more detailed and nuanced advice on your Home and Living supports, give us a call today, or send an email to [email protected] to chat with us about how we can help you to explore the options in the community that are all about you.

This tool has been made with Victorians in mind, and will stay that way (for now) while we test it out.

Using the tool: For best results, we recommend using The Wheel on a tablet in portrait mode.
